my desk is famous!

Last night as Michael and I were watching LOST (our newest Netflix addiction- seriously, we’re hooked!), I was catching up on my Google Reader and was thrilled to see a post about my desk on one of my favorite blogs, The Inspired Room!  We were so excited to read what Melissa had to say about the new studio’s DIY desk, that we totally forgot to pause the show- something that never happens when we watch LOST!

I wish I could take 100 percent of the credit for my fun desk, but most of it goes to my parents!  Both of them worked from home as I was growing up, and they always had desks made out of doors and sawhorses in their home offices.  Having beautifully renovated several older homes throughout their lives, they always knew where to find cool old doors to make their tabletops complete!  The door on which I am typing this very blog post came from a 19th century plantation home on the coast of North Carolina, and the sawhorses are two of the many my parents used throughout the challenging, but incredibly successful, renovation of that same plantation home.

For those of you who have not had the opportunity to check out The Inspired Room, you should definitely make a point to do so!  Melissa will surely inspire you with her fantastic eye for design and decor!

April 16, 2009 - 9:48 am mom - wow...we were recognized for "repurposing" before it was cool...try out of necessity and just plain quirkiness...that's us...your parents!!! but YOU put it in your new studio and you have taken YOUR desk to a new level. congrats! mom

April 16, 2009 - 5:10 pm melissa @ the inspired room - You are famous now, everyone loves your desk. I even saw it mentioned on Twitter saying it was the "cutest desk ever." You never know. This week on The Inspired Room, next week, OPRAH! Thanks again for sharing it, it is very inspiring. :-) PS. I just love looking at your dog photos. Best, Melissa

April 16, 2009 - 5:12 pm melissa @ the inspired room - PS. I am going to tell my husband what you said about forgetting to pause Lost -- that would NEVER happen to him. Ever. Not even for my blog. :-)

April 19, 2009 - 11:46 am Katie - I saw the post about your desk and wandered on over here. Great idea!! On a side note, I just recently got hooked on Lost from Netflix, until I realized that you can catch the episodes on Hulu. Much more convenient than waiting the days for only 4 episodes to be delivered!

May 16, 2009 - 6:03 pm Alyson - Love using a door for the desk! I have seen doors that have several panels cut out and art work/photos inserted and hung (stained glass inserts too). Not too practical, but lovely to view. Alyzabeth's Mommy for Eight Months!
