Adelaide, the one year-old Goldendoodle I photographed last week, is a riot! She had a fun time “modeling” in front of the camera and made her brother and sister, Jack and MacKenzie, crack up with some of her “poses.” We all had a great time running around her backyard, waiting to see what funny thing Adelaide would choose to do next! Since Adelaide lives in North Carolina (where it is already considerably warm outside!) she is getting a haircut this week. I am totally obsessed with all of her crazy curls right now, but I know she’ll be much cooler once she sheds that weight!

While I was in North Carolina visiting my family this weekend I was excited to take some photos of my other “regulars,” Rocky and Mason! Since he is a good listener (or maybe just a little more food motivated…), Mason was able to head downtown with me to take some photographs near the train station. Rocky, on the other hand, only listens to one person- my step-father, Ed. Not wanting to risk Rocky running around downtown Southern Pines, we set up a special session just for him, although we were interrupted by Mason quite a bit that afternoon. He hasn’t quite grasped the concept that other dogs need love and attention too!

Rocky is an incredibly sweet dog, who deserves some sort of award for always being the most patient dog in the family. I cannot imagine being him and having to put up with crazy Orvis and Mason. I’m so excited to be able to spend some time with him again this weekend when my family comes to help Michael and I paint the new studio. This will be Rocky’s first-ever trip to Maine and his first experience in a substantial amount of snow- I cannot wait!

Mason, my family’s almost one year-old (on Friday!) golden retriever, is a very fun dog. Not only can you get him to do just about anything you want him to, he will love every minute of it! Mason truly loves life . . . especially when there is something edible involved! A famous Mason story I love sharing, is the time he tried to eat my 100mm macro lens. Clearly, he mistook it for a swiss cake roll! Regardless of Mason’s crazy affinity for expensive camera equipment, he really is a delight to photograph. Enjoy!

Rocky is my family’s 7 year-old dog, who has been a wonderful role model for Orvis and my family’s younger pup, Mason. Rocky will immediately sucker you into giving him a nice belly rub, and then make you feel incredibly guilty for even thinking about stopping.

Leah is certainly quite the yellow lab! Not only does she have an energetic enthusiasm for life, she loves nothing more than to run and play with her owners, Natalie and Derek. I met the three Gomingers at the Duke Gardens in Durham, NC on a bitterly cold morning just before Christmas. True to lab form, Leah was ready to play frisbee, run, fetch and of course, munch on some delicious treats. Her playful spirit totally captivated me, as I watched her run free around the gardens, her tail wagging and her mouth wide open as she smiled right back at us.

I had a wonderful time rolling around, playing, running and laughing with Leah. Thank you Natalie and Derek, I can think of no better way to spend a December morning! I hope we get the chance to visit the next time I’m in North Carolina.

While Michael, Orvis and I were visiting family in North Carolina I was able to schedule a few dog shoots in the area. Laurel, the boxer, was my first one! I met Laurel, Rachel and Dave at Wilson Park in Carrboro the day after we made the 16-hour trip down south. When I knelt down to greet Laurel for the first time, I was quickly received by a great big kiss- oh, I was in love! When Rachel and Dave told me that she typically runs with them and that she has even made it 20 miles, I was even more smitten with my new friend (and did I mention totally impressed?!).

Laurel was all set for the holidays with her jingle bell collar- how fun!

As I was visiting my grandparents over the holidays, I was able to snap a few pictures of their dear three year-old cavalier king charles, Abigail. ”Abby” has always been such a sweet dog, and when she looks at you with her giant eyes, your heart just melts! When Orvis was a puppy he loved playing with Abby, but he grew a bit too quickly for her!

When I found out Rachelle, a middle school friend of mine, got a blue tick hound dog this summer, I went crazy! The pictures she and her fiance, Brian, would post online were simply adorable. I was so excited when we arranged for our crazy dogs to meet over the holidays. I knew they would get along just swell when Rachelle described Hank and his energetic ways. We both had a blast watching him wear Orvis, Mason and Rocky out in my parents’ backyard. Hank is a truly wonderful dog with such a fun personality! When it is time to get Orvis a playmate, a blue tick hound will be pretty high up on the list because of Hank!
